Description
Historical Background
Until 1881, the Municipality of Muralto and the Municipality of Orselina constituted a single public body, called Orselina.
From 1881, the split that saw the birth of the Municipality of Muralto, formed from the strip of land that was then called "Lower Orselina".
As the first mayor of the newly formed Municipality of Muralto, Francesco Scazziga was elected. The first official meeting of the Municpio took place on March 18, 1881.
Until 1926 the legislative body was the municipal assembly. The municipal council was established by assembly decision on October 31, 1926
The coat of arms of the municipality depicts the Muralti castle in red color on a white background, on which appear 3 lilies in red color.
The coat of arms probably originates from the noble family of the Muralti, who had their home in the Muralto castle. Of this manor, located south of the Station between Via Vittore Scazziga and the very ancient Vicolo dei Muralti, only a few traces remain
