Aide à l'enfance
With child protection as its primary mission, FOJ offers children, adolescents and young adults a secure and harmonious environment, while fostering their physical, psychological, cognitive, social and relational development.
The semi-community living experience offered by FOJ's educational homes significantly helps the child or teenager to find his or her place in the family and in society, and also to develop a sense of citizenship and responsibility.
With the child's agreement and active participation, educators systematically set up a individual, personalized and realistic support project. In their day-to-day work, the homes' educational teams insist on young people's rights and duties, as well as their responsibilities and ability to build a project for their future.
Within the limits of the legal framework laid down by federal and cantonal law and current court rulings, the family and partners are invited to participate together in this project.
Emergency care
Reassuring and protective places of welcome, emergency homes are intended for children and adolescents experiencing a crisis situation that requires temporary separation from their natural environment, by decision of the Service de Protection des Mineurs or a judicial authority. This is particularly the case for victims of domestic and family violence and alleged perpetrators.
What is meant by "crisis" ? Every existence is marked by periods that can give rise to crises. They are characterized by states of rupture, which are accompanied by anguish, sometimes violence, but always suffering, whether predictable or not.
The repetition and intensification of these periods can lead to intervention, or even emergency care. The latter often proves to be very useful, as the crisis period is a particularly favorable time to begin a process of change.
The mission of shelters is to provide a safe, supportive environment in which to live.
The mission of FOJ's emergency homes is to support the young person and his or her family to grow up sufficiently to allow a return home as soon as possible. Throughout the period of supervision, the educational teams ensure that the child's basic needs are met, while fostering the link with his or her family and maintaining his or her ongoing training.
If the process requires more time, educators may consider placement in another care structure in the medium or longer term.
Family support
Both within the foster homes and as part of home-based work, support for families is a pillar of FOJ's educational action. In order to help rebuild a situation in whicheveryone can play their part and assume their responsibilities, parent-child links, relationships and contacts are encouraged wherever possible.
Family support should be seen as a partnership between parents and professionals. The educational team informs, consults and solicits families at every stage of the process, in a spirit of respect and non-judgment. Parents are seen as the driving force behind the joint project. By no means passive beneficiaries of FOJ services, they are essential protagonists of a better future for their family.
Preparing for independence
One of the FOJ's missions is to help young people pass the age of majority and become independent. To achieve this, the Foundation provides young people with several shared apartments and studio apartments in residences.
These residences welcome young people from all over the world.
These residences welcome low-income non-university students, apprentices and young workers, who pursue their career paths in a place conducive to their projects. There, they benefit from individualized support from the educator in charge, who places daily emphasis on self-discipline and responsibility, both for themselves and towards others.
Experiencing living together, in an atmosphere of civility, respect and tolerance, is a strong point of shared accommodation, in addition to managing daily life and self. Young people learn about this on a daily basis, particularly when using shared premises.
