Traditional Chinese Medicine The origin of traditional Chinese medicine goes back more than 5,000 years. Over the centuries, it has formed a unique system to diagnose and cure illness. It is based on the assumption that the human body has a natural ability to resist disease when its two polarities (Yin and Yang) are in balance and when sufficient defensive life energy (Qi) is present. Even today in the modern world, we are still benefiting from this ancient yet still vital and holistic system of health and healing. Some might say that the stress and strains of modern life make it even more important to pay attention to the balance of our bodies. I grew up in a medical family in China so have always been fascinated by the wonders of this medicine. After five years' study at the Changchun University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, I worked for five years as a medical doctor in a hospital in China. I moved to Switzerland in 1999 and continued practising here. It gives me great satisfaction to be able to use my knowledge and to help so many people. My Chinese qualifications have been validated by the Swiss Red Cross and I am recognised by the State Secretariat for Education Research and Innovation (SERI) and am on the national register of healthcare professionals (NAREG).Yingzi Bruggmann
