Our historyThere were 30,000 Ticinese who emigrated to North America "California" from 1849 to 1918.The Grotto "GR8" America was the rendezvous where caravans on their way to Genoa and then set sail across the Atlantic Ocean waited. It was thus christened Grotto to America in 1890.Our cuisineOur cuisine focuses on offering traditional dishes with an innovative twist, mainly using all the good local products from Canton Ticino. We collaborate a lot with small producers close to us, from the Maggia Valley to the Onsernone Valley, thus supporting the small realities that definitely guarantee true "home" quality.Menu

simple – charming – good The San Giorgio – osteria with alloggio – is a historic, charming inn for a sleeping, good food and wine. Every guest, whether young or old, should feel at home here. Our 12 rooms are simply but charmingly. The rooms have private bathrooms, air conditioning, television and wifi. The Osteria has a wonderful terrace with a grottino, a restaurant with two small halls and a bar. We mainly serve regional and Swiss dishes.We also think of our vegetarian and vegan guests. There is no big menu, but fresh and regional quality.We are famous for our risottos and the “fritto misto del lago”.A good breakfast is the ideal way to start the day. As soon as it is warm enough, you can enjoy breakfast on our terrace. Homemade jam, Swiss cheese, sausage products and homemade Birchermüesli can be found on our buffet. Bikers can park their bikes without hesitation and there is also enough space for motorbikes. The hotel has free parking spaces. Losone is located between Locarno and Ascona, not far from the shores of Lake Maggiore. There is a bus station next to the hotel.With the Ticino Ticket, every guest can travel by bus and train for free throughout the canton of Ticino. For example with the FART to Centovalli, by bus to Cevio in the Maggia Valley, to Locarno for shopping, to Ascona for a stroll or to the James Bond Bridge in the Verzasctal Valley. If you come with your bike, you can easily reach the Meriggio on the Melezza, which is approx. 1 km away, or you can visit the very beautiful beach in Tegna, approx. 3 km. Locarno and Ascona have very beautiful beaches on Lake Maggiore, which are also worth a visit. Our Osteria San Giorgio has a wonderful terrace and is a typical restaurant that offers local and Swiss dishes. Vegans and vegetarians are very welcome. We make sure that there is good food for everybody.. Not a huge menu, but good and local quality. Dog areas: In the Canaa forest, approx. 500 meters from San Giorgio, there is a leash-free zone and there are many possibilities for other nice walks. Also within walking distance the leash-free zone from Meriggio to the delta to Ascona. As dog owners, we are very well informed and are happy to give you tips. Athletes: There are countless opportunities for jogging, running, mountain biking, hiking. We will be happy to help you with that too. A typical Tessinerplättli and a cold beer afterwards are just the right thing.
